English TAP

This unique Talent Advanced Program (TAP) is designed for 24 first-year students who are admitted to UMass Amherst as English majors - invitation required.

Invitation to the TAP is based on criteria set by the English department. Invitations are sent out in late winter/early spring.

When you join this TAP you will...

  • Enroll in a four-credit Literary Studies Seminar taught by a faculty member. The seminar will immerse students in the reading and analysis of various texts and encourage discussion of the issues underlying the study of literature.
  • Work closely with faculty and explore academic and/or professional opportunities related to your interests and goals.
  • Share your living and learning experience with other high-achieving students in your major.
  • Experience a variety of opportunities that will help you make a successful transition to the academic and social life at UMass.
  • Have the opportunity to enroll in a special TAP section of English 201 (Major British Authors) during the Spring semester

This program is a wonderful opportunity for you to get to know other motivated English majors, make connections to faculty, and learn about the goals and opportunities within the English department at the University!

Be sure to read the letter from Professor Jen Adams letter welcoming you to the TAP.  We think you will also enjoy the numerous comments from English TAP students.

If you were invited to this program, please be aware that you will not be in the program unless you follow the required steps to join!

Be sure to visit the How to Join page on this website to learn about the process and important timelines you must follow to become a member of this fantastic program!
