WANTED: Graduate Advisors (TAs) for Summer 2013 New Student Orientation and Fall 2013
Undergraduate Advising hires and trains graduate-level Teaching Assistants to work part-time during summer NSO and during the fall semester (possible continuation for spring). During the summer, TAs work with academic and peer advisors to introduce incoming undeclared students to academic options (including Residential Academic Programs) and set them up with a schedule for their first semester. During the academic year, TAs teach the OASIS seminar and advise undeclared students.

Students entering UMass Amherst graduate programs in Fall 2013 are not eligible.
Minimum one year as a TA/TO at UMass preferred. Prior experience as a teacher in a college or university setting may substitute for UMass teaching experience but preference goes to those who have already taught on campus. One letter of reference should address college teaching experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, both in one-on-one advising and in small group settings.
Basic computer literacy and accuracy with detailed academic information.
Knowledge of academic programs, regulations, and support services at UMass is strongly preferred.
Continuation into the academic year is contingent upon a positive evaluation of the candidate during the summer.
Graduate students from traditional arts and sciences programs, as well as professional schools, are encouraged to apply.
